Tranquil Living in the Heart of DC

Georgetown, DC

We enjoyed working with this busy family of four on two different projects in their East Village home, completed by custom home builders Cecchi Homes and Overmyer Architects.

The homeowners initially brought their Georgetown rowhouse remodel project to the TMD team to design their first-floor living areas. While we used a neutral paint color throughout the home’s first floor, we drew our inspiration for the pops of color in the fabrics and area rugs from the family’s extensive art collection and heirlooms. And since the family included younger children, we chose family-friendly fabrics whenever appropriate.

Like many other families, when the pandemic began in early 2020, the homeowners were forced to take a new look at how they were using their home and living spaces. The family asked us to return to the home to design their lower-level as well as their upper-level bedrooms (including their children’s rooms).

With an eye on functionality, we created separate areas in the lower level for play and rest. Again, we chose family-friendly fabrics and bright patterns to create comfortable living spaces. In the home’s upper level, we used the same neutral color scheme from the main living areas and added texture and personality by using wallpaper to define spaces. We also created cozy nooks for relaxation and work.
